Dr. Kate Domenico
Veterinarian, Captain
Dr Domenico joined IVS in May 2019. Originally from Chicago, she attended Ross University and the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine. Since graduation from Veterinary School in 2004, she has focused on soft tissue surgery, practice management, emergency and critical care. In addition to her full-time work in Emergency and Critical Care at Portland Veterinary Emergency (PVESC), she is a Veterinary Medical Officer for the National Veterinary Response Team of the Department of Health and Human Services. This role has deployed her all over the US for disaster mitigation and providing emergency medical care to Secret Service and Military working canines. Dr. Domenico is one of the lead instructors for the Working Canine Medical Skills course, organized by the Portland Police Department. She is also on the board of the Maine Veterinary Medical Association.
In her free time, she enjoys sailing, paddle boarding and skiing. She shares her home with a very energetic Labrador, River - who is our proud first mate on the IVS boat!

Elspeth Pennell, LVT
Veterinary Technician, Director of Snack Distribution
Elspeth has been a part of IVS since 2017. She considers the Island Community and their pets close to her heart as she spent 6 years living on Peaks Island. She spends most her days working across the state with veterinary specialties and ERs with public outreach. Elspeth's medical experience has focused on emergency and field medicine. She also enjoys teaching and has worked as an adjunct professor for a local veterinary technology school and with operational canines and their handlers in the greater Maine community. When she's not working, you'll find her on the water or in the mountains with her trusted, furry companions, Aspen and Juniper, by her side.
Michelle RubEy, LVT
Veterinary Technician, Tiny Patient Whisperer
Michelle is thrilled to join IVS this year and help serve the Island pets and their community! A licensed tech since 2014, she also works per diem at PVESC to stay connected to her love of emergency medicine. She spends as much time in the sunshine as possible, usually paddleboarding, hiking, or tending to the greenhouse. Michelle shares her life at home with her boyfriend and their crew, her dog, Nora, her cat, Gibbs, and his two german shepherds, Sally and Tahoe.
