Meet the Team!

Kate
Domenico, DVM

Dr Domenico joined IVS in May 2019. Originally from Chicago, she attended Ross University and the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine. Since graduation from Veterinary School in 2004, she has focused on soft tissue surgery, practice management, emergency and critical care. In addition to her full-time work in Emergency and Critical Care at Portland Veterinary Emergency (PVESC), she is a Veterinary Medical Officer for the National Veterinary Response Team of the Department of Health and Human Services. This role has deployed her all over the US for disaster mitigation and providing emergency medical care to Secret Service and Military working canines. Dr. Domenico is one of the lead instructors for the Working Canine Medical Skills course, organized by the Portland Police Department. And she is President of the Maine Veterinary Medical Association.

In her free time, she enjoys sailing, paddle boarding and skiing. She shares her home with a very opinionated one-eyed French Bulldog, Capt. Jack Sparrow, and a very energetic Labrador, River - who is our proud first mate on the IVS boat!

Elspeth Pennell, LVT

Elspeth has been a part of IVS since 2017. She considers the Island Community and their pets close to her heart as she spent 6 years living on Peaks Island. She spends most days working at a local Veterinary ER and teaching Vet Tech students. When she's not there, you'll find her on the water or in the mountains with her trusted, furry companions by her side.

Liberty Chestnut, VA

Liberty lives and works in southern Maine with her two pups, greyhound Ivy and pittie Salem. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine for fisheries ecology in 2020 and started working with Island Vet in 2022. In addition to Island Vet, Liberty also works in the emergency and critical care department of a large veterinary hospital. She enjoys skiing, house plants, flying airplanes, and breakfast sandwiches on Peaks.
